Updating oak cupboards

When removing the doors, remove the bottom hinge first to avoid stressing the hinge, which can damage both the hardware and the door.

The wood grain can manifest itself in two ways: through the texture of the wood and also the grain bleeding through the paint.

Oak is a hard wood, but it tends to be vulnerable to surface checking, which is the appearance of tiny splits and cracks on the wood surface.

To remove surface checking and other signs of wear, golden oak cabinets must be refinished.

This kitchen gets additional warmth from cherry counters, an antique island, gingham-check wallpaper, and an apron sink.

If you have any question at all about this project, chances are that it is answered either in the comments of this post, in the ebook, or in my follow-up Kitchen Cabinets FAQs post.
